WIRESUN today announced the launch of its 0.2–8 kg FDM Filament Feeding System. The add-on lets existing FDM/FFF 3D printers run from spools of 0.2 kg up to 8 kg. It targets three of the biggest ongoing costs in production 3D printing: expensive small-pack filament, frequent spool changes, and the staff needed to manage them.

Tackling the hidden costs of the 1 kg spool
Most FDM printers can only hold a standard 1 kg spool. For workshops printing in volume, that limit adds up. Small-pack filament typically costs more per kilogram. Every empty spool means stopping the machine to remove it, load a new one, re-thread and re-calibrate. Long or overnight jobs need someone on hand to change spools, which makes truly unattended production difficult.
Servo-driven feeding with constant tension
The system’s main innovation is how it feeds filament. Conventional spool holders are passive: the printer’s extruder has to pull filament off the spool. Heavy spools add drag, and tension shifts whenever feed speed changes. [Company Name]’s feeder uses a servo motor to actively feed filament according to printing demand. A tension spring sets the tension independently, so it is fully decoupled from the spool’s weight and resistance.
A built-in tension stabilization function keeps that tension constant throughout the print, regardless of changes in feed speed or resistance from the tension rod and guide rollers. The result is smooth, stable feeding even from heavy 8 kg industrial spools.

Consistent print quality: identical parts printed with the 0.2–8 kg Filament Feeding System.
Measurable savings in material and labor
With support for spools up to 8 kg, users can buy lower-cost bulk filament. In real user data, filament costs fell from ¥28/kg to ¥15/kg, a saving of ¥13 per kilogram, or about 46%. A workshop using 100 kg of filament a month could save an estimated ¥15,600 a year on material alone, before counting labor savings.
Capacity rises eightfold. One 8 kg spool replaces eight 1 kg spools, so spool changes drop by 87.5%. That means fewer stoppages, less wasted filament, fewer failed threadings, and staff who can look after more machines.
Our customers kept telling us that changing spools was eating into their margins and their nights. With servo-driven feeding and constant tension, an 8 kg spool now feeds as reliably as a 1 kg one, so printers can simply keep running.
Built for continuous production
The feeder is designed for:
· Print farms and batch production workshops, where filament cost and staff efficiency matter most
· Long and overnight print jobs, which can now run unattended
· Design and prototyping studios, which can test materials on 0.2 kg spools and produce on 8 kg spools
· Schools and research labs, which want lower material budgets and fewer interruptions
Because it is an add-on, no printer replacement is needed. Existing FDM equipment can be upgraded directly.
Availability
